European Championship:
The European Championship is a continental tournament, where Europe’s top nations clash against each other to be considered champions of Europe. It is played every 4 years, with an exception for last year as because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the tournament has to be played in the summer of 2021, while maintaining the name of 2020. The tournament is organized by UEFA as suggested by the name and includes a total of 24 nations. The matches will be played in 11 different countries all throughout Europe with the final match being played in England’s most remarkable venue, London’s Wembley Stadium. The tournament is structured into 6 different groups of 4 teams each where the best 2 of each group will advance into the knockout stages. The 4 best 3rd placed teams will also earn a right to enter the knockout stages, leaving a total of 8 teams out of the 24 to go home early. These matches will have the presence of fans with a limited capacity being given to the residents of where the matches are set to be played. The tournament will last a month with the first match being played on the 11th of June and the final on the 11th of July.
Who to look out for?
There are various teams which are worth following in this summer campaign. Nations like North Macedonia and Finland are playing their first major tournament this summer. These teams are highly unlikely to make it far, but it can be nice to keep an eye on them. Group F is definitely a group too pay very close attention to as it includes 3 massive favourites to win it all. The group includes the world champions France, the ex-world champions Germany, and the holders of the Euros Portugal and poor Hungary who seem to be in for a not so fun ride in this tournament. Other favourites include England, Belgium and the Netherlands.
