As the club footballing season has come to an end, there are many departures from clubs and national teams that we unfortunately have to say goodbye to. Contracts come to ends, managers and clubs must make decisions on the future. Therefore, I am bringing you the most significant departures we have seen this summer.
Sergio Agüero
Sergio “Kun” Agüero signed for Manchester City in 2011 and scored a total of 184 goals with the Cityzens shirt on making him the club’s top scorer. Winning a total of 4 league titles, 4 league cups and 1 FA cup. His contract expired this summer, and his next club has already been announced as he is making a move to Barcelona to join his national team friend, Lionel Messi. Agüero has definitely left his mark at city leaving as a club legend who surely won’t be forgotten in the near future. His most remarkable moment with the City shirt is definitely the goal vs Queens Park Rangers as he clinched Manchester City the title over their local rivals, Manchester United, with a stoppage time goal at 93:20. Without a doubt, the most remarkable Agüero moment.
Sergio Ramos
Sergio Ramos is still considered by many the best Centre Back in the world. Joining Real Madrid in 2005, Ramos left his mark as a ‘Galactico’ with his impressive 469 appearances for Los Blancos. 5 league titles, 4 Champions Leagues, 2 Copa del Reys, 4 Club World Cups makes his career for the Madrid club truly one to remember. Playing alongside incredible superstars like Zinedine Zidane, Cristiano Ronaldo, Raul and Luka Modric, always meant that this team had potential to cause damage to whatever opponents they faced. Ramos’ most impressive feats as a Real Madrid player include his 3-peat in the Champions League between 2016 and 2018 and his added time goal which ended up clinching Real Madrid their 10th UEFA Champions League trophy, known as “La Decima”. His header from a corner made that night in Lisbon one to never forget for Real Madrid’s history.
Joachim Löw
Joachim Löw entered the Germany hotseat in 2006, managing the German national team for a total of 16 years. During this time, he won a World Cup in 2014 beating Argentina in the final 1-0 with a goal in extra time from Mario Götze. Löw took an underperforming German team and made them a force to be reckoned with. Germany has always been known for their consistent style of play despite having no amazing superstar like other nations across the globe. In 2014, Löw managed an incredibly stacked team with the likes of Manuel Neuer, Philipp Lahm, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Toni Kroos leading the line. As of now, Löw has departed after finishing the Euro 2020 campaign with an early round of 16 exit to England, losing 2-0.
