Graffiti and Vandalism have a very fine line, but even so both are completely different. First, I would like to address the most common types of vandalism. The most common type of vandalism is tagging although tagging is considered vandalism actual artists who do graffiti also enjoy tagging. All the artists that do have tags usually make them eye catching and put more time into them while random people who do tag usually just scribble their name in a random fount and don't put any effort into them. Another thing that many people do not understand is that armatures in the graffiti world who are only just starting to do graffiti mostly start by doing simple tags and simple designs. Alot of graffiti artist do tag in places hard to reach that don’t harm or ruin someone else's property in any way. Vandalism in the graffiti community is when a person buys a can of paint and decides that its cool to do right a random word or sentence on someone fence, side of a building and even in some circumstances ruin someone else's piece by scribbling some random words on top.

In the graffiti community there are four types of graffiti, and they all have an order. For example Tags are at the bottom because they do not matter as much as other graffiti, throw ups go over tags, throw ups are an artist's tag but in big filled in block letters with a simple outline, but on top of throw ups there are pieces, peices are like throw ups except much more detailed and usually incorporate an original character, and on top of all of those are burners, burners are basically to say the least murals.

What kind of Graffiti/Vandalism would be open to the public? In a lot of cases the person or persons that vandalized certain property usually writes or draws inappropriate things. You can usually find inappropriate words or images on traffic signs construction fences, buildings (Mainly the windows), and houses. Most of the public do not care about a person doing graffiti in alleys, on the side of abandoned structures, and even on abandoned cars, if the artist puts time and effort into the piece and makes so said place more colorful and nicer for the eye most people wouldn’t care. But the public eye doesn’t want to see curse words, and inappropriate images graffitied for all to see. This is why most of the graffiti that you can find is in appropriate places. And when an artist is trying to become a graffiti artist, having the reputation of someone who draws and writes inappropriate things for fun is not good. This will cause a lot of other graffiti artists to lose respect or never have respect for you in the first place.

I would like to point out that many people still consider graffiti as art as well. Although graffiti can get you arrested there are many points to the charges that you could face if you did. In the case where you do get arrested for doing graffiti, very rarely will you have to face jail time, but it is more likely for you to pay a monetary fine or do community service. When an individual is doing actual graffiti by painting an art piece, they usually do it on abandoned structures such as walls, buildings, houses, and even trains, and they also do it in alleys. When an individual is looking for an area to graffiti in, they usually look for other graffiti to be there for the reassurance that other people did it there and did not get in trouble. Even so many of the graffiti artists do not have respect for people's property and graffiti on it for fun, and if you ever do decide to do graffiti be the respectful graffiti artist graffiti in appropriate places and don’t get into any trouble.
