Trump threatens Nato’s existence: you need to pay more; or Russia can ‘do whatever they want’

Donald Trump was elected as the US president in 2016 and was voted out in 2020 to be substituted by Joe Biden. This November Trump will try to win again, to make America ‘great again.’ If he is to win this election, he will most probably leave Nato, and will not aid European allies at war if they do not spend at least 2% of thein GDP (Gross Domestic Product) on Defense and Military.  Without the US in Nato, war will certainly break out. This is especially since Trump, not only won't support these countries but will encourage Russia to invade countries in the Nato that aren’t paying this 2% of their GDP.

The UK, Germany, and France have been speaking of creating a nuclear shield in case this happens.

Many countries in the EU (18 out of 31), are expected to pay 2% in 2024. However, the rest will be at risk.

John Bolton, who was Trump’s national security adviser from April 2018 to September 2019, also doesn't support Trumps’s actions, saying in the interview: “He threatened the existence of Nato, and I think in a second Trump term, we’d almost certainly withdraw from Nato.”

To conclude, the US’s potential withdrawal from Nato would have significant adverse effects on Europe, especially Easter Europe.
