Gan Abdel Fattah al-Burhan

Gen Abdel Fattah al-Burhan became the president of Sudan in 2021 through a military coup, now he is president and leader of the military. A few days before the start of the war (25 of April this year), tension was building up since the Rapid Support Forces (controlled by Den Dagalo, the leader) were redeployed in the country. This was seen as a threat by the army, and so, the fighting began. Den Dagalo claims that they were fighting to give the people the democracy they have been yearning for. Most people do not tend to believe him because of his past actions, such as attacking rebels.

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF)were created in 2013 (before the coup) and fought against rebels. This is one of the reasons why people do not trust him.

Until now there have been over 500 confirmed deaths (400 being civilians), and 4500 wounded. It is predicted that there are over 50,000 Sudanese refugees that have escaped into: Chad, Egypt, South Sudan, and the Central African Republic. The RSF have demanded that the people’s valuables such as phones and jewellery as payment to cross some borders. This is an act that many people take as banditry.

No one knows what will happen, what do you think will happen? Will the RSF invade the country? Or will the current leader of the country keep his power?
