The School Update

Oh, to be back

And once again we have endured a lockdown and arrived back in school. Transferring from online to in person can be difficult for both students and teachers, trying to organise work and transition back into using physical pens and paper. But like always we will push through.

Photography competition

If you have checked your emails, you may have seen that the Photography club organised a competition. The task was to capture a photograph that conveys any song of ttheir choice. The competition inspired and motivated many students to get creative and build their photography skills, it was so popular that the cut off had to be delayed! The final winner of this artistic competition will obtain 100 house points and will have their photo displayed at school; the results will come out on the week of the 10th and will be decided via a school wide vote.

Year 13 exams

It’s that time of the year where DP students across the globe are finally sitting their final exams in order to achieve their IB diploma. The exams started on Thursday, the 29th of April and will continue all the way until the 21st of May. So that our year 13s can write their exams in peace we have given them the pavilion/exam area, as a result we have had some room changes. Click here so you can see the room changes.

School sports resume

COVID-19 has unfortunately put a halt on our school’s sports, but now we can happily say that they are back! For the rest of May and June, Football and volleyball training will be held after school, from 3:50 to 5:00 pm for secondary students. Training will be separated regarding bubbles or year groups, however genders will be mixed. This is a great time to socialise, get active, build community and prepare for tournaments! The following photo entails training times:

Head Student

As our year 13s leave behind OIS for their next stage of life, the year 12s have begun to pick up the mantle as the leaders and role models of our school. More specifically the process of selecting the head students has begun. OIS will elect 2 head students to represent our school, however this is not a straightforward process. There have been 8 students who have put their names forward this year, all responsible and dedicated students. First these 8 will be narrowed down to 4 and then it is up to us, the student body to elect who we believe to best fit the role as head students.

The Year 10 Dance Project

People who have been in year 10 in OIS would have had to design and participate in a dance sequence. And this year’s, year 10s have now completed this right of passage. They wowed OIS by showing off their break, Bollywood and salsa dancing skills.

School photos

You probably have seen or may have even been part of the school photos that happened on the 4th and 5th of May. Mr. Lewis explained that they were needed, as photos on the school website lacks students, and in turn, lacks OIS spirit. But this was not the only reason for some new photos, they will also be used in the rebranding of OIS. Mr. Lewis explained that the website, campus and even the school logo will change! However, the foundations such as the school colours and heart will remain the same. It is just a well-deserved ‘glow up'.
