The Gentlemen

ree

The Gentlemen is one of the latest Netflix made TV shows and is perhaps my favorite that they have released in the last few years. Directed by Guy Ritchie it holds up to the legendary name that the man has made for himself. Most notably for his hit movies Snatch in the early 2000’s, which is on my list of classic movies that I need to watch. A movie of his that I have watched that I truly enjoyed was the man from U.N.C.L.E. To me this tv show was really a breath of fresh air and this critique is a testimony as to why it is for me the best tv show of its genre of the year.

Firstly the Genres. The genre of this tv show is not unique, it is not only somewhat violent and full of action but is also comedic and somewhat smart. The story is simple to understand and what hooks the viewer at first is the dark comedy and the kind of humor which is usually “cancelled” that as a society we are losing. Most francophones will understand what I say when I say that the tv show is on par with the likes of Family Business by Igor Gotesman both in plot but in a comedic sense as well.

In the gentlemen what I truly enjoyed was the constant mockery of British nobility as being a group of people born with money, unable to make anything of themselves due to their extremely easy upbringing. An image that I personally found extremely refreshing coming from a very international background, constantly being around people who have no real value of money for whom money is a given.

I truly recommend this tv show to all interested as it is simple to watch, somewhat smart, interesting and I do not want to spoil the series as it was truly enjoyable to watch. That being said it is also important to not embellish the story as these people are not people that you want to become or even become friends. Personally I finished the tv show in a total of one weekend and I felt as if I was pacing myself.
