Sadly the population of Eastern Barred bandicoot has plummeted because of foxes and habitat destruction. After about 30 years it is the first time Australia has changed the “extinct in the wild” to “endangered”. All the conservation efforts came from 150 Australian bandicoots to about 1500 estimated.

Amy Coetsee, a threatened species biologist working at Zoos Victoria stated "We have high hopes that with persistence, determination and help from the government we can fight extinction".
