“POLITICO Poll of Polls — French Polls, Trends and Election News for France.” POLITICO, 2014, www.politico.eu/europe-poll-of-polls/france/.

In this article, you will receive information on the 2022 French candidates for the presidential elections, where we will see some newcomers to the poll, and candidates who have a second chance to run. All of them are determined to be the next President of France.

Emmanuel Macron

Emmanuel Macron is the French president and the leader of the political party “La république en marche!”. He was voted president in 2017, with a 43.06% of the vote at 39 years old, becoming the youngest president in French History. This year, the liberal has a 24% chance of winning in the first poll, and a 56% of winning in the second one, Politico states, competing with Le Pen and Pécresse. Macron considers his party to be progressive and uniting both the left and right.   Marine Le Pen

Marine Le Pen is a French lawyer and politician who is the founder of the “National Rally”, a far-right wing political party and has been its president since 2011. In the presidential elections of 2017, she won second place to Macron with a 33.9% of the vote, this year she has a 17% chance of winning in the first poll and a 44% chance in the second one, yet again competing with the current president.

Pécresse

Valérie Pécresse is a French politician who is the President of the Regional Council of Île-de-France since 2015. She is a member of “The Republicans” a centre-right wing political party. This year will be her first time running for president and off with a great start, she has a 16% chance of winning in the first poll and a 46% chance in the second poll.

Éric Zemmour

Éric Zemmour is a French far-right wing politician, political journalist, writer, and pundit. He was editor and panellist on Face à l'Info from 2019 to 2021.  The 2022 elections will be his first time, with a 13% of winning the first poll.

Mélenchon

Jean-Luc Mélenchon is a French politician, who is the president of “La France Insoumise”, a left-wing political party founded in 2016. This year’s elections will not be his first try. In the presidential elections of 2017, Mélenchon came in fourth place with 19.6% of the vote, he then became a member of the National Assembly for “La France Insoumise” following the 2017 legislative election. In the 2022 polls he has a 10% chance of winning the first one, after Zemmour.

Yannick Jadot

Yannick Jadot is a French environmentalist and politician; he is a member of the “Europe Écologie - Les Verts” a left-wing political party formed in 2013. This year will also be his first time running for president, in the first poll he has a 5% chance of winning, 2% more than Hidalgo.

Anne Hidalgo

Anne Hidalgo is a Spanish French politician who has been serving as Mayor of Paris since 2014. She is a member of the “Socialist Party” and is the first woman to hold office. Despite her promise in 2020 to serve a full second term as Mayor of Paris, she is now a candidate in the 2022 presidential elections with a 3% of winning the first poll.

As we can see, these seven candidates of the 2022 French Presidential elections seem promising, some more than others. However, just like 2017, Macron and Le Pen are head-to-head with a solid intervention from Pécresse.
