=============================================================
Long ago in Mount Olympus in Zeus’ Throne room, Hades came to Zeus to reason with him about Hades being god of the underworld.
“Why won’t you let me stay up here for one day?”, screamed Hades in Zeus’ face. Spit flew out of his mouth in his rage.
“You will terrify the Gods and Goddesses!” Zeus replied calmly. “They will think you have come up here to take someone who is alive down to the …, well, you know, YOUR realm.” Zeus exclaimed.
Hades disappeared in a cloud of black smoke, and a flash of grey light. Hmmm, Zeus thought, he usually fights until he gets what he wants. Well, at least he left.
Late that night Hades snuck into Zeus’ Throne room and found his lightening bolt. “Ha-ha - finally that old geezer is being taught a lesson,” Hades thought.
Once Hades was back in his realm in the underworld he snapped the bolt in half. But thin the shards of the lightning bolt broke up into millions of little pieces and floated up into the sky. They started to glow and shine.
When Zeus had found out what had happened, he furiously burst into Hephaestus’ workshop and demanded a new lightning bolt made immediately.
“Hey, I don’t take orders straight from the gods, but I will make an exception, just this once,” shouted Hephaestus taken aback.
"Well, I want it in one hour!” Zeus shouted frustrated.
"Alrighty, I’ll start right away,” exclaimed Hephaestus.
During the night Zeus saw that his bolt shards were glowing. So that same night he went to Hecate to see if she could make the shards of the bolt twinkle. Crack! Snap! Zeus apparated in Hecate’s magic temple.
Make those shards twinkle. Crack! Snap! Zeus apparated in Hecate’s magic temple.
“Make those shards twinkle,” roared Zeus. “Pronto,” he shouted pointing up at the sky.
“Calm down.” Hecate replied calmly. “I will make them twinkle, if you do something for me,” Hecate said mysteriously.
“What do you want? I’ll do anything!"
“Well,” Hecate said, malevolently. “Can you bring me the eye of the fiercest dragon you can find, and a dead newt? It must have died of old age.”
“Why all these requirements?," Zeus asked, alarmed. He was not the type of god that goes on quests requested from minor gods.
“You want the stars to twinkle, right? So, bring me those things and your stars will twinkle,” she said calmly.
So, Zeus had no choice but to go on the quest to make the stars twinkle. First he needed to go to Hephaestus to retrieve his new bolt. When he arrived he apologized and asked for his bolt.
Yep, “Tis here, yes sireee, right here and it’s brand new?” Hephaestus exclaimed holding it out to Zeus.
Zeus apparated in front of the fiercest dragon he had ever seen. It was like Zeus was in slow motion. He slashed and kicked, finally the dragon eye was in his pocket and the newt in his hand. Pocketing the newt, he set off for Hecate’s temple. Deciding that apparating would be easier he apparated in Hecate’s magic temple.
“I see you have found the thing I needed?” Hecate said, calmly.
“Yes, I have and it was dead too,” Zeus shouted, annoyed. He threw the newt and the eye in a cauldron and said, “Now, make the stars twinkle.”
So, stirring and adding ingredients Hecate made the potion.
“Oh, nada canton to meconated mocho teene chan pocee, nada nada!" Hecate muttered the incantation and waved her hands. Lots of tiny drops of potion slowly floated up into the sky and sunk into the stars.
