Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, released on the 2nd of September (Portugal) was directed by Destin Cretton and produced by Kevin Fiege and Jonathan Schwartz. Shang Chi is the first Asian superhero in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). He is a young Chinese man raised by his father in seclusion and trained in martial arts. When he has a chance to get in touch with the rest of the world, he soon realizes that his father is not the humanitarian he claimed to be, and he is forced to rebel. This film has gotten a 92% on the tomato meter and a 98% on the audience score. It includes an amazing cast which consists of Simu Liu as Shang Chi, Awkwafina and Katy, Meng' er Zhang as Xialing and many others. I believe that this movie is enjoyable for all ages above 10/12, people who like watching action and adventure will especially enjoy it.
Before watching this movie I’d recommend watching Iron Man 3, Avengers Infinity War/Endgame and Doctor Strange.
Shang Chi is an incredible movie. There was a great plot as well as a thorough look into the Asian culture, but it also includes a very well made and explained story. The ending was spectacular with amazing visual effects but also a touching finish which left many in tears. While watching this movie we grow to empathize with Shang Chi while we dive into his journey together. Katy, played by Awkwafina was an amazing touch to the movie which showed us the strong bond between these best friends, but she also adds tons of comedy. Marvel fans were able to spot fun cameos and the post credit scenes left Marvel fans thrilled. The filming techniques are magnificent, the visuals were out of this world, the colors used made us quickly understand the different environments and the costumes did not disappoint. One thing that was mesmerizing to watch was the martial arts. We spot how the way the characters fight is similar to their personality as we analyze their movements and techniques but also while watching it, we notice the beauty of this sport. Nonetheless, I thought that sometimes the movie’s pacing was a bit slow and when you thought the movie reached the end you notice there is still a while to go. Even though sometimes I felt that, it was not upsetting at all, I was not prepared for the end, when I noticed there was still a bit left to go, I got a bit nervous it would make me bored however it was so worth it. Overall, I’d give this movie an 8.5/10 it was one the most beautiful MCU movies, and it was very well executed!
Many fans, including myself are thrilled for future Marvel projects, we can see how Marvel has begun to add more diversity into their films. Upcoming Marvel projects includes, Hawkeye (Tv Show), Ms. Marvel (Tv show), Eternals (movie) Spider-Man No Way Home (Movie) and many more. We can see how the MCU is progressively expanding allowing more audiences to relate to the characters and feel represented on – screen. These new and upcoming projects are being more open to other diversities, Eternals is going to include the first deaf superhero as well as the first openly gay couple, Ms. Marvel will include the first Pakistani MCU hero and the list goes on. The Falcon and the Winter Solider is a MCU Tv show which focuses a lot on racism and how many are mistreated because of their appearances and by following the comics, they made Sam Wilson (Falcon) the next Captain America! Having these big changes will massively increase the audience numbers and encourage more people to go and watch them and after, it’ll will make them feel empowered and appreciated.
