Hello MYP students, have you ever wondered what is happening in the other side (The PYP)?? Well fortunately, I had the chance to have an online interview with Mr. Chambers the PYP coordinator! Here’s some questions and answers!
Q: “What are some projects the PYP have been working on?”
A: “A big part of PYP is working on a project how to make a difference based on knowledge. but Covid restricted that a lot. The student council has a really strong leadership, they made an activity that occurs monthly called Make a difference day. Another activity is an activity Ms. Domingas recommended, going to the garden in the MYP and planting vegetables and donate them to families in need in Barcarena. Also, they’ve been helping a project called *Cerci Oeiras”
Q: “Do you have any future projects you’re planning for the PYP?”
A: “Action is everything. Last year our year 3 students had a project for our unit of inquiry, we share the planet. We went to the beach and picked up the litter. To make an influence we created a polluted area so others could visit it and have an experience what it feels like to have a polluted environment. That was an interesting experience so we might do something similar if we get the chance to.”
Q: “Will there be changes caused by Covid?”
A: “Due to Covid we will have to adapt how we learn. We need to know student and teacher’s wellbeing, mentally and physically. In terms of Covid impact curriculum, there’s a year 6 project, they research how different governments came up with Covid plans and their responsibility.”
Q: “Is there anything else you want to tell us about the PYP?”
A: “The PYP is a place that has an international group of learners. learning about nationality and opinions/ thoughts from different cultures. Making a positive change.”
At last, my opinion is that the PYP is doing a really good job trying to make the world a better place! Thank you so much Mr. Chambers for giving me this opportunity to learn more about the PYP community!
*Cerci Oeiras is a project created to help people/animals that are disabled and needs help. If you want to learn more and possibly join this project here’s a link to their website! ( http://www.cercioeiras.pt/ )
