“It’s not me. I swear!” I defended myself. William shook his head in disbelief, of course He didn’t believe me. Every time that we played before, and I was the mafia, I would say the same thing in my ‘lying tone’ as he liked to call it.

We were in my living room, some on the grey couch others in the magenta chairs and the people who are already eliminated were sitting on the floor on top of green pillows, eating the snacks that I brought. “It’s definitely Faye, she’s using her lying tone” he exclaimed. I turned to look at Catherine, but she quickly turned her gaze away from mine. William motioned at Liam, who was sitting beside him, on the couch, to come closer and they started whispering. Great, now I'm definitely getting eliminated; everyone believes the best friend who has known you since you were 5 years old.

“Everyone point to who they think is the mafia” Victoria said, sitting in one of the comfy chairs, she was the narrator for this game since she is a terrible actress. I saw William point first followed by Liam, Sophie and finally, a little hesitant was Catherine.

“Faye, the majority voted for you. Please reveal if you are the mafia” Victoria said. I slowly turned my card to show everyone that it was in fact, not me. Everyone gasped and turned their heads towards William, who now needed to convince them why he thought I was lying.

“I swear she was using her lying voice! She was probably nervous” he said, trying to justify his mistake.

“We’ve played this game 500 times and you know Faye, she doesn’t get nervous. Especially not when it comes to this game” Catherine said, defending me like the best friend she is. I crossed my arms and gave William the ‘what do you have to say for yourself now?’ look.

“It was an honest mistake. C’mon you can’t expect me to know every time that Faye is lying, right?” he said, but I could tell that the others were hesitant about believing him. Serves him right for thinking I was the mafia.

“It’s night-time everyone, go to sleep” Victoria said. I was excited to see William as the mafia but before I got the chance, I heard my name being called by my mom. “I’m coming!” I shouted as I got up from my seat leaving the room.

“Remember, your mother and I are going out tonight, so you have to take care of your sister,” she said while brushing her hair in front of the bathroom mirror. “Yeah I remember. Happy anniversary by the way,” I said while leaning against the doorframe. “Thank you, sweetheart” she replied, smiling.

“Can I go back to my friends then?” I asked pointing my thumb in the direction of the stairs. “Yeah, you can go now, have fun” she said before ruffling my hair. “Mom!” I whined while trying to fix my hair as I walked down the stairs and back to my friends.

When I returned, I realised that night-time had passed, and they were back to accusing each other. “It’s definitely William” Sophie said, and Liam and Odalia nodded. “What, it’s not me, I swear! It was a mistake, honestly” William tried to justify himself, but it was obvious that nobody believed him.

“Okay, everyone point to who they think the mafia is” Victoria said, and I watched one by one as everyone pointed to William. “Okay, the majority wins. William, please reveal your card” she said, just before he did, I heard Sophie and Liam whispering to each other about how William was definitely the mafia and I completely agreed with them. William slowly turned his card and...

“I told you guys it wasn’t me!” he exclaimed. His card was the nine of hearts, which made him a civilian. “Well, since there are only three players left and there is still a mafia alive. The mafia wins!” Victoria declared and I saw a grin appear on Catherine’s face. “No way! I can’t believe it, you tricked us all” I said incredulously, everyone looked shocked except for Catherine and Darby, who was the other mafia but was already eliminated; Darby stood up from the floor and walked towards where Catherine was sitting and they high-fived each other excitedly.

Everyone stood up from where they were sitting and some even started to yawn and stretch, I saw that as my cue to tell everyone to go home since it was late. “It’s getting pretty late guys so you should probably head home.” I led them towards the door and opened it for them, “Bye, thanks for coming. See you soon” I said, as they said their goodbyes and walked out the door.

With everyone gone home, I went to check on my sister. I knocked on her caramel-coloured door, I looked at the colourful, wooden letters spelling out her name while I waited for her to tell me to come in; when she did, I opened her door and walked into her clean room. “Did you have fun with your friends?” she asked, sitting up on her bed. “Yeah, we played mafia, Catherine was the mafia and she won the game” I told her, and she smiled at that. “She finally beat you guys? About time” she said happily.

“Do you wanna do something together or just hang out in our own rooms separately?” I asked her. She thought about it for a while before answering, “Let’s play Uno!” she said excitedly, and I smiled at that. “Okay you get the cards and I'll get us some snacks,” I said, as she let out an excited “Yay!”.
