Lupin Season 3 Review

ree

Lupin is a French tv show that I watched with my family last year, when it first came out. The TV show stars the internationally famous French Actor, Omar Sy playing as Assane Diop. The main consensus amongst most people was that the first season was very good, it truly pulled you into the universe. However most people disliked the second season, the second season had a plot that felt like it was pulled from the hairs. There was no link like in the first season where the main “bad guy” of sorts was an important character from Assane. However, the last season was quite different than the others.

Lupin as a whole is one of my favorite TV shows, especially since the Arsène Lupin book series was one of my favorite when growing up, Arsène Lupin and Sherlock Holmes. I remember reading both of the whole collections in under 2 months and being completely addicted to the stories and the mystery. The third season is the one that reminded me most of the books. Without revealing too much of the plot in itself it is very difficult to analyze a movie or a tv show but here is my try.

I will start by telling you what I believe the tv show could be better at . The first main thing that I think that the TV show should’ve done is open more loose ends in the end of season 2. The second season was a suitable end to the TV show, a bad one but an end nevertheless, there really was not a need for continuation, unlike in the end of season 1 where us, the viewers, were on the edge of our seats waiting to know more about the series, and the story of this family. The second main issue for me comes from the same place, the fact that the issues that Assane faces keep getting bigger. That is the law of TV shows in a way but they end up losing some realism. However this could’ve been much worse and the final season is still very believable.

Now for the positives of this series. The main advantage of this series is the acting. Omar Sy is very good at going from a very protective man to any of the roles he has to play. That is somewhat his job but the writers are particularly good at giving us the details at the right time and making us understand how each situation happened. This is what resembles the most the book, the disguises and elaborate plans that are explained at the end of the action. The other really well done aspect of this story is the story form the past of Assane. Seeing as the flashbacks are a particularity of this TV show, it is very pleasing to see such a good incorporation of the past in present. In the second season it almost felt as if they were forced to do so and it lost most of its utility and felt quite redundant.

In conclusion, this season was refreshing and felt truly worked by the writers and the whole staff who were maybe not given an easy job of trying to create a story from a very closed end of the season that came before. There are still some aspects that I believe can be improved but at the end of the day no one is perfect and there will always be room for improvement. It is one of the best tv shows that I have seen that has come out this year, at least so far, Beckham could be a very good tv show.
