On Tuesday the 27th of April, CAISL held its annual JMUN conference. These conferences are always joyful and interesting to attend. This year was totally different because of the COVID-19 pandemic the conference was held over Zoom. The grand change in the conference was new to the delegates and the staff but CAISL did their best to make it easy for everyone.
There were technical difficulties that the students had to endure but as OIS teaches Critical Thinking skills they were able to break through the challenges. The debate was fruitful like always and the students debated amazing topics. This year was ‘preserving the right to accessible education’ and ‘ensuring racial equality’. The debates were productive as everyone engaged and sent their amendments like asked to. These conferences are a great way to learn more about foreign countries and to get more comfortable with public speaking. The conferences are much better when done in person however the teachers, staff and CAISL had done a wonderful job by making us feel like we are debating in the happy, COVID free times.
Special thanks to Sabrina Pekarovic, Mattao Goey, Shreya Tripathi, Rafael Cutodio, Carlota Champalimaud, Danila Dryaev and Jose Garcia for spending their day supervising the students from OIS, making sure that they are having a good time and answering any questions.
