Is Squid Game Worth Watching

Most of you have probably watched or heard of Squid Game. It’s a series that revolves around 456 people that are under huge debt putting their lives at risk to play a series of children's games for the chance to win a ₩45.6 billion prize. It sounds relatively close to many other series, so why is it so massively popular?

People enjoyed the series. It was intelligent and entertaining. Most of the ratings are very high, for example on Rotten Tomatoes, it has an approval rating of 93%, and the IMDB rating is an 8.1/10. Many appreciated it for its simplicity and its dramatic and eye-catching aesthetic. The pacing and cliffhangers make this series ridiculously addictive and perfect for binge-watching. The endings of each episode seduce you into clicking "next episode". Even though they’re about an hour-long, they never feel tedious or slow, on the contrary, the director perfectly adds each element to the story to make you feel the urge to continue and discover more. So, why were they negative critiques about the series?

Some people had unpopular opinions on Squid Game. They thought that the series wasn’t sophisticated enough. While the first 6 episodes were excellent the last three stumbled all over the place. The VIPs, who had a hidden role everyone dreaded to know about, were undeveloped annoying characters whose purpose lacked any logic whatsoever. The motive to create the game was weak and didn’t have enough reasoning. Building this entire game and risking people’s lives because of boredom doesn’t sound plausible, and will be more interesting if there was an ulterior motive. The final most important plot of the story, the identity of the founder, was predictable, if you looked closely, the director gave clues throughout the story, for example how he wasn’t targeted in red light, green light or how he has no player file. While it’s a good twist, it was a bit too obvious and would’ve been better if it’s even more unexpected and the moment of discovery should've been better presented.

Now the argument here is: is Squid Game worth watching? Yes, while there are negative comments about how it doesn't deserve the hype and how it deceived many, I think you should at least watch 3 episodes and judge for yourself. The series is overall well done and is fun to watch.
