Usually, kids and teenagers don’t picture adults watching cartoons, childish or animated movies often. It is just something that comes with our understanding that most of the times adults have very different interests and preferences than children.
This article is all about how most of the times adults can learn things that can be applied in real life through childish movies like the movie “Inside-Out 2”.
This movie has a past narrative related to it and it explains how things and emotions work in our mind. Personally, I really like the series of movies that include Inside- Out 1 & 2, and I think that they clarify very well how emotions and thoughts work differently in each and every one of our unique minds.
The first movie explores the emotional life of a young girl named Riley. The story is told from the perspective of her emotions—Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust. They live in the control center of her mind and influence her actions, choices and memories. As Riley moves to San Francisco she has to adapt to a new life which has been challenging. The movie shows how her emotions have to overcome some challenges and that most of the time it isn’t easy adapting to something different so quickly.
Something very important that this movie teaches us is that we should always mindfully embrace the thought and hard emotions rather than suppress them and accept our struggles and difficulties. These movies are full of different interesting meanings and lessons that can enrich us a lot if we pay attention to and understand their messages.
For example, that anxiety is a very overwhelming emotion that we have to learn to control and that we must capture the feeling of childhood because when we grow up, we can’t go back in time.
In order to obtain some results to write this article, I interviewed a few of OIS’ teachers and got their permission to mention their names and opinions in this composition.
OIS’ very own Mr. Cousins had a very good opinion regarding the movie’s idea.
“I love the Inside Out movies. I love learning about psychology, I read books and listen to podcasts about how our minds work and I enjoy sharing and discussing these ideas with others. Why I love Inside Out is because it makes talking about psychological ideas and it makes it really understandable and enjoyable for students (and adults).”- Ciaran Cousins
As Mr. Cousins mentioned, the fact that these movies make it very understandable and enjoyable at the same time while talking about psychological facts and information shows that he learned and had fun while watching these animated movies.
Sometimes, animated movies are intentionally made with deeper meanings so that when we grow up and watch the movie again, we realize how our child minds understand things in a different way.
“I think the ideas it brings up are really important to know about and to discuss. Now I'm working in the MYP the new film reminds me of how much is going on inside the heads of our students.”- Ciaran Cousins
Mr. Cousins also says that the new movie refreshes his memory about the different things that are going on in the minds of students that he teaches.
Overall, I think that even though movies can be a distraction sometimes, we can learn a lot from them. This movie is a very good example, and Mr. Cousins’ answers helped us understand how interesting the meanings behind animated movies are.
