Donald Trump; Back in Court

ree

Donald Trump is in hot water once again. Again and again we find the former president in judicial courts facing many different charges. There was an indictment over the hush money settlement sent to Stormy Daniels, there was also the Trump Organization payroll case which he was found guilty of 17 tax fraud counts, there was an investigation into the Fulton country election that he had ties too, there was the Justice department investigation into the January 6th insurrection, there was the investigation into the handling of classified documents, and there have been lawsuits after lawsuits against Trump. And now comes about, the possibly biggest cases in his lifetime. A sexual assault case.

Curiously, this case occurred 27 years ago. Trump sexually abused E Jean Carroll a journalist, author, and advice columnist. This occurred in a New York department store changing room. Carroll filed a lawsuit against the ex – president last year. It was then taken to civil court in which there was a 2-week trial.

Carroll spoke out against Trump last fall with her lawsuit but was then labelled a liar and her life was turned upside down. Sexual assault cases are not usually won by the victim. Rather it is the perpetrator who wins, and the victims life ends up in shambles. A lot of time defamation occurs which is what happened in the case of E Jean Carroll. She was defamed by Donald Trump. Defamation means the action of damaging the good reputation of someone.

Carroll testified in court and gave her account of the story and…

… On Tuesday, May 9th, 2023, the jury found Donald Trump guilty of sexual assault and was also found liable for defaming the writer. Carroll had also claimed that Trump had raped her, but Trump was found not guilty to the charge of rape. They also ordered him to pay $5 million in compensatory and punitive damages. The jury was made up of 6 men and 3 women. Trump did not testify nor appear in court. And after the verdict he stated on his social media site, Truth Social, “I have absolutely no idea who this woman is. This verdict is a disgrace.”

This was a big win for women as she faced off against a former president and won her case. Carroll herself said, “This victory is not just for me but for every woman who has suffered because she was not believed.” Carroll has taken her life back and after coming out of the court room winning the lawsuit you can see the smile on her face showing how happy she is.

But Donald Trump is not out of the woods yet. While this case may have ended others against the president continue.
