Who are ICAO & what they did
International standards and suggested practices for civil aviation are developed and promoted by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), a specialized agency of the United Nations. The COVID-19 risk in international airline travel has been managed by the development of guidelines and suggestions, and this year the regulations have altered as COVID-19 is gradually declining globally. These recommendations include actions like screening passengers before takeoff, greater airplane cleaning and sanitization, and the usage of face masks or other personal protection equipment. According to Dr. Fang Liu, President of the ICAO Council, the organization is collaborating closely with other UN agencies and other partners to help Member States manage the risk of COVID-19 in air travel.
Increased travel connectivity is crucial, according to ICAO, as more states restore their closed air borders as a result of COVID-19. In addition to adhering to advice and guidelines from the World Health Organization, WHO, and ICAO, the UN agency reminds us that “restrictions connected to the pandemic should only be implemented and maintained based on evidence and risk management envisaged in the threats.”
According to Juan Carlos Salazar, secretary general of the organization that specializes in air travel, "this strategy contributes to boosting travel, tourism, trade, and economy."
Collaborative Agreement for the Prevention and Management of Public Health Events in Civil Aviation, or Capsa Program, already lays out guidelines that nations should take into account when enacting mitigation policies and procedures for air travel.
Variants in circulation globally
The advisory notes the variations now in use on a global scale, offers advice on how to maintain open borders, and raises concerns about crews and key personnel. The recommendations go into more detail on the factors that nations should think about before deciding whether to deploy and test initiatives. The guide goes through the current widespread geographic variance in viruses that are circulating, vaccination rates, and other infections that increase the risk of respiratory disease. The text places a focus on tracking the progression of cases and mortality rates among nations, as well as the public health systems' and public authorities' abilities to manage new outbreaks on top of their regular burden.
