Celebrating the Wellbeing awareness year at OIS

ree

Through this school year, different topics related with Wellbeing will be celebrated each month. The main topic selected is based on international celebrations in October, and Extended Tutor program (ETG). The MYP is focused on themes like Relationships in Y7, Choices in Y8 and Well-being in Y9, Responsibility Y10 and Citizenship Y11.

In October our focus was Mental Health. We celebrated three important international events.

· 10th – World Mental Health Day

· 20th – World Day Against Bullying and

· 30th Pink Day Pink Day- is an annual cross-division celebration coordinated by Diploma CAS and MYP Service as Action students, for the purpose of raising awareness about breast cancer. Working in cooperation with the Laço Instituto Medicina Molecular (IMM), the OIS community seeks to help with the awareness campaign raises money through a bake sale and donations to help support their research efforts toward finding a cure. This year was a great success. thanks to the hard work of the CAS and MYP teams, and the participation by the entire school community, parents, students, and staff, we had approximately 200 people in the photograph of the human pink ribbon and raised a record 561€. This amazingly successful month would not have been possible without a team of students led by Francisco Silva and supported by Joana Nobre, Carol Pratt, the SA/ CAS coordinators and Joana do Vale

Additionally, other initiatives to raise awareness included presentations to students and staff, such as:

· our school psychologist Tiago Santos talked with Years 10 - 11 about “resilience and coping mechanisms”. · A guest speaker Ines Marinho (#Naopartilhes) talked to Years7 - 9 about Cyberbullying

· Our last day of school before the Mid Term Break, our school psychologist talked to Year 9 about Mental Health “Reach, Talk and Move”.

It is important for the whole OIS Community to know that there is a team available to help. From Tutors to Teachers, the Nurse, Student Support and the Psychologist, the doors are always open
