In thinking about free speech, we must first take a look at ourselves, understand who we are, who we should strive to be, and remember the core values we share as human beings.
Including justice equality, and liberty. While they will always be disagreements, what we cannot do is deny the worth of any individual or our common, shared humanity.
Belonging is a fundamental part for all individuals in which we strive for acceptance and security through others.
Understanding is a main part of feeling like you belong. Individuals belong when they fell connected to others and the world. However, to do this they must first have an understanding and self-acceptance which will nourish their sense of belonging. But how can we believe in ourselves when no one else does?
How often do we see children running around not knowing where they belong? Not often. Us new generation, the seed to the future don’t even know where we belong to and why. How are we supposed to help the world become a better place when we do not feel welcomed by it and its society?
I have a dream.. that one day every citizen of our society will feel welcomed and will feel like they belong regardless of their race. I have a dream.
We humans discriminate by the appearance by the intelligence by the authority of each one. But how do you want to make someone become a better person if you don’t allow it to feel welcome. Everyone should feel welcome by who they are.
Because us human beings we are all equal and we belong together, we have the right to be accepted the way we are and have the right to feel like we belong even though we speak another language, we have another skin color. We are who we are, and we disserve to belong where we want to belong.
A lack of understanding of the concept of belonging and yourself leads to preventing your identity, relationships, acceptance and ultimately belonging.
The sentence I would like to finish this speech with because I think that it is very important and meaningful is "Those who have a strong sense of love and belonging have the courage to be imperfect."
I have a dream…
