October to December is the time to celebrate the festivities, I thought it would be fun to learn about various candies from the U.S.! There are candies of all shapes and sizes, from big to tiny, round to square, and hard as rock to soft as a marshmallow, there are all types of candy. And it’s time for you to know about them. (If you already know what they are then just skip ahead, but there might be things that you never knew about! 😁)
Nerds
Nerds are a tiny crunchy candy, that resembles the shape of an irregular pebble. Although they come in all sorts of flavors, such as watermelon, cherry, and orange, the original flavors were grape and strawberry. In 1983 nerds were created by the Willy Wonka Candy Factory, but are currently being produced by the company Nestlé, who bought the company 5 years later. Nerds have a unique packaging design. Nerds come in boxes with two flavors, with two different compartments and two different spouts to dispense the two flavors.
Warheads
Warheads are an extremely sour hard candy that takes the shape of a slightly flattened sphere. This candy is extremely sour on the outside, and as it melts in your mouth, it becomes sweeter and sweeter. This candy is called a warhead, because the sour is so intense that it feels like a warhead going off in your mouth. Warheads come in five flavors, blue raspberry, lemon, green apple, black cherry, and watermelon.
Pixy Stixs
A pixy stix is powdered candy that is usually packaged in a straw-like wrapping. The way you eat it is by tearing open the top of the “straw” and pouring the contents into your mouth. There are a variety of flavors such as Grape, Maui Slap/Punch (Blue Raspberry), Orange, Cherry, Strawberry, Cucumber-Watermelon, and Mango-Lime Pineapple.
Starbursts
A starburst is a fruit flavored chewy candy, they resemble the shape of a cube that has been flattened just a bit to make a flattish cube. Starbursts, originally called Opal Fruits, are made by The Wrigley Company which is secondary to Mars Incorporated. The original starburst flavors are cherry (red), orange, strawberry (pink), and lemon (yellow).
jolly ranchers
A jolly rancher is a hard candy with a very bright fruit flavor. Jolly ranchers usually come in the shape of a cylinder, and when you have had it in your mouth for a while, you can bend it. As it melts in your mouth it gets kind of soft. The original flavors were cherry, watermelon (orange- pink), grape (purple), blue raspberry (blue), and green apple (green).
